Ancient records kept at the shrine state that Emperor Keiko temporarily lodged at the site of Tamana Daijingu Shrine went he visited the Tamana area. A shrine was later built on the spot, and in addition to Amaterasu Omikami and Emperor Keiko, the shrine was dedicated to Tamaiyori-hime, who was worshiped as the guardian spirit of Tamana.
